Turning a docket entry into a calendar
The notice of electronic filing carries the trigger, and everything after it is a chain: so many days from service, rolled off weekends and court holidays, extended for the methods of service that buy extra time, all specific to one jurisdiction. Reading the trigger off the docket entry is extraction. Running the chain is a rule set that has to be built per court and proved, which is why an honest build names the jurisdictions it covers and refuses the ones it does not rather than quietly computing a wrong date.
The same client name is typed into the conflicts database, the practice management system, the document management system and the ledger, and a conflict is only found later if two people spelled it the same way.
A firm organises everything by matter, and the matter record is created by hand from an intake form. That single re-keying step seeds four systems, and because there is no shared identifier between them, every later reconciliation is a name match against human typing.
