Reading the quality clauses off an incoming purchase order

A purchase order arrives carrying clause codes and little else. Q17, QC-4, a document number belonging to the prime. The text behind those codes lives in a supplier quality manual on a website, and it decides whether source inspection has to happen before the truck leaves and whether the model may be opened at all under digital product definition rules. Codes also flow down onto the order sent to the plater. Nobody reads them twice, so the one that costs a shipment is the one read once.

Context / manufacturing Why this one is worth doing here

The quote was built against one revision and the drawing in the operator hand is another, which is the defect this sector is built around.

A request to quote arrives as an archive of geometry files and drawings, or as a line in a customer portal, or as a scan. An estimator opens each one, decomposes the part into operations mentally, estimates setup and run times, and emails suppliers for material pricing before typing a number into a spreadsheet.

When this is the wrong thing to build

Pick something else if every order you take comes from two long standing customers on terms that have not moved in years. Clause reading pays when the customer mix is wide and the supplier manual gets revised on a website with no notice to you. A narrow list keeps the requirements in the head of the estimator.
