Reading income documents out of a rental application
A rental application arrives as a pay stub, a bank statement, a photograph of an identity card and a letter from an employer, and someone reads every page by eye. Software can pull employer name, pay period, gross pay and year to date totals into typed fields, then hold them against the income standard written into the criteria for that property. A stub exported by a payroll provider carries different producer metadata from one rebuilt inside an editor. That check belongs at the top of the file, before anyone forms a view.
The management system is authoritative for money and knows nothing about the phone call where the owner approved the repair.
A management company runs two ledgers that must never mix: the money it holds for owners and tenants, and its own. Everything downstream of that separation is regulated, which shapes what automation is allowed to touch.

When this is the wrong thing to build
Pick something else if your criteria are not written down anywhere. Extraction gives you numbers to compare against a standard, and if the standard lives in the head of whoever is reviewing, automating the reading part only makes inconsistent treatment faster and better documented.
The constraint that shapes it
In most states property management is licensed brokerage activity, which means the company operates under a broker and its handling of client funds is supervised, with segregation from operating money and periodic reconciliation expected. More on how this sector works.
A file arrives. The fields come back typed and checkable. Read what this shape is, or start from one of these.
